Senior Project Update #3

This week I finished my report and I'm now really excited to get started on my presentation for senior projects and for my meeting with the administration. This week I was actually also able to get together with a friend to work on our projects together and that was a great experience. It definitely made me feel less alone and kept me focused and productive. So far I have continued to learn about the process of writing a report like this. In my last post, I noticed a couple comments wondering about the information I've learned so far from my survey, so here is an analysis of one of the most interesting questions on the survey: "The majority of what I learned about race, racism, and antiracism came from Catlin Gabel." Nearly 60% of respondents answered either “Neutral/not sure”, “I somewhat disagree”, or “I disagree”. Less than 20% of respondents answered with “I agree” This indicates a large area of growth in education around race, racism, and antiracism in the Catlin Gabel curriculum. The high standard deviation for this question (1.4) shows the vast difference in experiences between students.

A lot of my work this week has been going through and putting visuals in the report, writing summaries of questions and student feedback, and finishing "focused analysis" for each significant question. I have also continued to train for college squash (and volunteered as a student coach), worked at Chipotle, and volunteered for Virginia Garcia to fill the time I am not spending working on this survey. This week an interview that I did, "Sustaining the Energy," with Ken Dubois for the Caller was posted on the front page of the Catlin website. I was proud to see my words about antiracism, the POC experience at Catlin, and this senior project displayed in front of my community

I am curious what the student response will be to the report and survey summary.
Again, I think I'm well on my way towards my goals from my first post, and continue to be excited and engaged in this process!

  1. Great update here Anushka. Happy you are finding ways to connect with others and find value/endurance with this work. A lot of the time that is a big part of the process of sticking with work that you truly believe because at times external and internal support can seem fleeting. Very proud of you!

  3. Hi Anushka,
This sounds super interesting. The fact about 60% Catlin kids answering neutral and or not sure is startling to me as I, a person of color, thought Catlin did a decent job of bringing points of racism to assemblies and some classes although they definitely aren’t perfect. Anyways can’t wait to see your final slideshows Anushka! Zia

  5. Hi Anushka,
You're doing such great work, I'm super proud of you. I agree, I would definitely answer as something negative/maybe neutral, but it is far from an 'agree.' Thanks for conducting this work, I'm excited to hear about your presentation. - Mrinalini
